Job: Structured Cable Installer

Job Description

Individuals with a background or some experience in construction, operating power tools, and interpreting architectural blueprints and schematics as well as education or certifications related to communications technology are preferred.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Work with other team members and attend job meetings as required

  • Travel to customer locations

  • Trace cabling, data, fiber optic multi conductor twisted pair

  • Must be motivated, willing to learn and goal orientated

  • Installs telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, firewalls

  • Installation and configuration of network equipment, including switches, routers, servers and associated equipment for networking of POS systems

  • Install, terminate, and program data cabling and associated hardware. Test and troubleshoot installed cable.

  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws

  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.

  • Constantly update job knowledge

 

Job Skills and Requirements

 

  • Working knowledge of PC operations

  • Working knowledge of Ethernet networking

  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Valid driver's license

  • Professional communication skills

  • Problem solving abilities

  • Must be willing to work in tobacco free environments

  • Must be capable of working in a team environment

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment

  • Minimal understanding of network wiring (Cat 5e and above cabling and termination techniques)

  • Minimal understanding of low voltage electronic circuitry and terminology (relay, contacts,AC-DC voltage, resistance, ability to read a schematic, etc.)

  • Knowledge of RF technology, DSS and CATV Systems a plus

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems such as Windows and DOS

  • Flexible workstyle

  • Experience in construction, operating power tools, interpreting architectural blueprints and schematics, and reading technical manuals is beneficial

  • Education and/or certifications related to communications technology preferred

  • Detail oriented

  • Aptitute or background for working with electronics and communications technology

  • Ability to travel to customer sites overnight for a four to five days at a time

  • Ability to pass background checks, including PA criminal records checks, PA child abuse check, and drug testing checks

  • Ability to distinguish the full spectrum of colors in order to work with color coded wiring

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights over 35 feet.

  • Ability and willingness to lift 50 lbs.
